Our water pump is slowly dieing on us. Its the original Shurflo that was installed at the factory.
What pump have you replaced yours with?
Since we boondock a lot, a low gpm, high-pressure 45+ would be nice. Any suggestions?

        I would check Camping World.

We have not had good luck with water pumps. Our original Shurflo pump died on our way home from the factory. (IN to NH). Lifestyle sent me a new one and that one quite working on our trip west. Somewhere on I-90 in SD. The pump motor works but it has no suction. Checked the filter and that is clean. Just called my contact at Lifestyle and we are going to be talking on Monday. I will try to prime the pump but don’t don;t have much hope in that helping. My have to go for a different pump as others are doing.

Mine did the same thing, quit the second day. It would run, but no suction. Also the pump filter was missing. Repair shop replaced the pump and installed the required filter. No more pump problem.

With the filter missing, they thought the pump picked something up from the fresh water tank.

I suspect that models have changed since I replaced my oem with a Shuttle Extreme Series Smart Sensor 4.0 pump. (specs were medium flow 4 gpm, variable speed microprocessor controlled, high pressure 50 psi (3.4 bar), “just like home” smooth flow silent operation, current limiting 9 amps, self priming up to ten feet, ports were 1/2 inch NPS-M thread, while the strainer/filter had odd ball quick connect fittings in elbow and straight for either 1/2 inch push on flex hose or NPS-M thread. Fyi, I got 2 fittings in each package, so don’t order too many!

Don’t over tighten the rubber dampening feet on the pump or the pump will make more noise.

The problem with the Shurflo pump is in the built in check valve. It can stick in the open position and cause the fresh water tank to fill or in the closed position and cause the pump not to prime. Mine did both, once filling the tank then next time it wouldn’t prime. The problem is that the city water pressure is always pushing on the built in valve and even with a pressure regulator can cause the valve to stick in the closed position and not allow the pump to prime.
The only way to combat this is to cut the line on the outflow side of the pump and install a shut off valve so the city water can’t push on the back flow valve. The aftermarket valve would have to be turned to the open position to use the pump. I have not done this to my pump as of yet but I did install an aftermarket back flow preventer so my fresh water tank would not fill again. We very rarely use our pump but I need to do this fix in the near future.

Ours is slowly losing pressure, which means the check valve is leaking back, but the pump itself is losing pressure as it runs. Usually, the diaphragm gets covered with mineral buildup and just loses its function.
But if I gotta get it out of its little hidy-hole, I’m replacing it with something better, then I’ll rebuild the shurflow.

I’ve used my current Flojet for 8 years. Moved it from the previous rig to this one. It has been flawless for those 8 years.

Maybe I’m lucky. This is the 4th rig I’ve used a Flojet VSD on, in 14 years, and zero failures.

We have a Shurflo 2088-422-144 and for our usage it’s been fine for years.

Last night, I preparing for a freeze, I disconnected the supply water hose from the park and turned on the pump. Water began gushing out of the park supply connection point in the connection closet. Any suggestions on how to repair? A google search came up with no results. Apparently this model is no longer available but equivalents are only about $70 from Amazon.

        Thanks,

The city water inlet check valve is stuck open. Sometimes it can be un-stuck but if not here is one link to a new one.

I searched for the pump and you searched for the problem.

        As always Chip, many thanks!
