what you do for the winter with these units.
We really like ours works great. Or any ideals others might borrow like me!These where pictures while putting together. Bought it off Amazon I bought the larger model
Portable ‘Mobile-Soft-Water’ Water Softener with 16,000 Grains Capacity
Sold by: ABC Water EquipmentThe price was better price than others, but same tank.
Thanks for your info
Posted: 8:58 PM – Sep 16, 2014It looks just like my Flo-Pur. I do have mine installed in the basement and I love it. i had some pictures somewhere, but I can’t find them right now. I will post them if I do find them, but I cut the main line, put in an elbow and plumbed to the softener and back in to the main line. By doing this, ALL the water is softened, even the water coming from the tank. I used the “Gator-bite” or “Shark-bite” connectors for the installation and in the winter I simply disconnect the connections, remove the softener and reconnect the lines. I used PVC and put in a couple of valves that allow me to isolate the coach while I recharge the softener. I carry a piece of hose long enough to run the rinse water into a bucket or sewage connection when recharging. With this arrangement, I can remove my water softener in about 5 to 10 minutes, which includes wiping up any spills that I might have. This allows me to then winterize my system without ruining the softener.Posted: 9:47 PM – Sep 16, 2014We bought a 5 micron outside water filter, a water softener and some hoses from the water filter store last year. We plumbed into the rv water system.I bought hose connection fittings at Home Depot and drill about 2, 7/8″ holes in the utility compartment and ran the hoses to and from the water softener. I have the water pressure gauge between the outlet of the water softener and the inlet into the rv’s water system.
I bought some 1″ by 4″ strapping at Home Depot (plus a trial size bottle of pain), and some velcro strapping, so that the water softener is stationery as we travel. I placed the entire system in a plastic box in the event of a leak somewhere, but in over the past year and thousands of miles, nothing moved.
We are camping at present, and the park has a broken water main, so I had water for a short time this morning so filled our water tank with soft water. You may note the brass ‘y’ valve on the outlet side of the softener – I attached a short piece of hose to it, and fill the water tank (or wash the rig with soft water).
We use the test strips and test the water at new campsites for hardness. We were away 7 months last year and only recharged the softener when we returned home after that lengthy trip.
I like that we can use a lamp in the compartment to keep a bit of heat in there in freezing temperatures, plus it is out of sight.
Any questions, please advise.

Posted: 10:50 PM – Sep 16, 2014I got the Flo-Pur for our trip this summer. Plummed it to sit on the ground outside and it worked better than imagined. The shower stopped with the staining a cleans great. I put it outside to clean it easier.Posted: 8:36 AM – Sep 17, 2014Looks like a clean install. Good job. I too am considering the Flo Pur 10000. Are you satisfied with the performance?Posted: 9:21 AM – Sep 17, 2014Just ordered this unit from Flo Pur:

Posted: 7:53 AM – Sep 19, 2014Thanks for the replies really great pictures! I know we really like ours.
I did put a carbon filter and a sediment filter before softener to keep out trash
out of it. Then I also have the B3 house filter like I seen in the above pictures.
Being full time I figure installing inside would be less work when moving.
My driver side basement door is narrow but I’m still plotting on putting
it there. With some type pan to catch any water. Even though about having a hole
in bottom going outside just in case of a leak, but it hasn’t yet. We do always turn
our water off before we leave.
Gen bay I have my honey pot and it’s the big one wish I would have gotten smaller one.
Yet big one usually takes one haul. Could put a shelf in gen area!
Thanks for all your help!
DonPosted: 11:13 PM – Sep 20, 2014YesLarge particulate pre-filter, softener easily removable for recharge with salt, charcoal filter. All of the above filter shore water and water going into and out if fresh water holding tank.
Softener good for 2 weeks to 3 months depending upon where hardness coming in.

Posted: 6:55 AM – Sep 21, 2014The smaller 8000 grains ones typically last around two weeks.
They also have 10000 grains.
The 16000 grains is around a month of course that’s based on usage and
hardness of water in the area. If soaps not lathering up as good or
close to when you feel time is up, get test strips out and check. We have splendid wife always washing and it’s lasted over a month for 16000 grains.
Posted: 11:05 AM – Sep 21, 2014Ottercamp,I use the test strips as soon as I find the soap in shower or sink tougher to lather and shampoo easier to come out. I try to recharge soon after the reading is “hard” and try to avoid letting it get into the “very hard” range on the strips. I have had no whitish residue on faucets, counter top, or shower since following this practice.
Remember, if you have hard water coming in you get a true read at sink taps as to net quality of water after passing through softener. If your next stop is better water a test strip will read softer as it needs little help (and is getting none) from the softener.
Just like a home unit, the softener can absorb only do much mineral hardness before needing recharge. Softener media collects the minerals and the salty water flushes them out of the media. Most rvers use a lot less water than a home so can get by with he small media tank.

Posted: 6:50 PM – Sep 21, 2014On page one above, I posted a second photo of my pre filter, softener, and carbon filter setup. It looks like a tangle of hoses, but that is because I had a leak in the 6-inch hoses and only 18-inch replacements were readily available.I also added an elbow with flange fitting for vinyl tubing to the drain shutoff valve. An 8 foot length of clear vinyl hose is permanently attached, just wound around the softener when not in use. This allows easy and quick draining of softener prior to removal and little water cleanup. I had originally planned and plumbed backwash to be done while still mounted inside 5er but find it is faster and easier to do all of that outside the 5er.

That’s a lot of pipes. What all does it do?Thank you for your help!
Posted: 11:33 PM – Sep 25, 2014My fresh water tank is filled via the 2 filters and the softener. Also an easy blow out winterization drain for all parts.Posted: 10:40 PM – Nov 05, 2014I gotter done.I do have a little more to do. Like a better bracket for the carbon filter.
