We have a Weber Q120 portable BBQ. I have been having troubles with getting the unit to come up above 250 degrees. I have tried letting it sit for a few minutes after hooking the hose to it to equalize the line with no improvement. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I was wondering if the regulator could be malfunctioning but wanted to check here before replacing it. Thanks for any suggestionshttp

Since you are allowing time for pressure equalization, it is probably the regulator. I was pursuing this issue and one person had your problem and contacted Weber. They sent a new regulator and te problem was solved.

I had a Q200 and had the same problem. It just wouldn’t get hot enough even after changing the regulator. I sold it and the cart for a loss on Craigslist a few months ago. A quick search on the net showes more with the same problem. I’m still a charcoal and wood guy all the way for ribs and steaks and pride myself with my BBQ. I have this little grill for burgers and dogs and was able to drill the knob out to get to the regulator adjustment screw to pull a few more Btu’s out of it. If it’s not hot enough to sear then it’s not hot enough for a good prime rib eye.

We’ve had ours for years and I find that the slots on top of the burner get clogged up. I take it apart and clean them out, or I replace the burner and it seems to work.

I vote that we all join up for a test of falconhunter’s performance as master of the grill, (on his dime of course).

        All in favor, say aye!

I do like good prime rib I’m in–now we just need to find a place to meet.

We had the same problem with ours….I removed the regulator and cleaned it out….it seems that the propane companies mix a small amount of a oil substance with the propane…sometimes it’s to much and clogs the regulator over time….I’ve just cleaned it out and things are back to normal…..Rich

My specialty is ribs. I grill them at least once a week. If your ever in the neighborhood stop by and I will gladly grill a rack or two. I have a rack in the fridge right now all dusted up and waiting to go on the grill tomorrow. Nothing but fall off the bone, hot and sweet and melt in your mouth goodness! I’ll send you an after pic tomorrow.

I assume that means a pic of you sitting back in a lawn chair with a full belly and looking very satisfied.

Thinking we’re not back in Texas till right around Christmas and we’ll be just outside Sealy at that time. We might wanna keep this on the QT as we might have a bunch of company making it hard to get a sample off the grill.

Gonna share your secret recipe, or is it a trade secret?

I interrupt our drooling over the ribs to go back to the original message so I can ask a related question – my Weber Go Anywhere Gas grill is on the outs and I am looking at the Q120. Before your problems, how was the heat? Was there enough to grill chicken breasts, burgers and steaks? I am not planning to slow cook ribs or roasts and Texas is a bit far to travel for a sample of Chip’s ribs!

        Thanks!

I have used a Q120 for several years and have been happy with the performance. It needs a bit of time to heat up, but then is ready to go. Nice char lines and enough heat to get a rib eye to medium rare in 7-8 minutes.

ai have A Q120 and it can cook all you are talking about well. If I want to slow cook something, I use a Holland Companion that I also carry. You put your food on and walk away. Only problem with the holland is if it is windy hard to keep lit.

I love my “Q”!!!. I regularly remove the burner to clean out the grill bottom and just brush it with my grill brush. I have never had a problem with getting to temp. Just make sure the valve is off when you connect the propane tank!

        this site says…
quote] It sounds like the regulator is shutting down and preventing the grill from getting all of the propane it needs. to remedy your problem disconnect the tank and then reconnect it. Usually that is all it takes to get the regulator to work properly. If the problem continues just get a new hose with regulator attached.]quote

        this from another forum… http://www.rv.net/forums/index.cfm/fuse … d/23205165
quote] We have 2 Weber BBQ’s, the Q100 and the Q200. We have had continual issues with our Q200 not getting hot enough. I have taken it apart and cleaned all the accessible parts several times and gone through all “what to do’s” trouble shooting. Finally in frustration I called Weber and spoke to a knowledgeable Tech who asked numerous questions that seemed rather odd. After all the answers were provided, I was told the regulator was defective and would be replaced even though the unit is 2 years old. Apparently there was a manufacturing defect in the Q200’s at some point and the questions were to determine if we had one of the defective ones. Any way, they are sending us a new regulator assembly and want us to return the old one for “analysis”. So if anyone else is having heating issues with a Q200, I would suggest talking to Weber about it. The number is 800-446-1071.]quote
