Winterizing draw?

Hi I’m trying to clean the fresh water tank with bleach solution. The only way I could get the solution into the tank was with the pump on, valve set to winterize, second valve set to city. Then spraying the outside hose draws the solution in. But it seems like it just sprays the solution right out through the hose. So what is the correct procedure to get solution into the tank?

Mine doesnt have all those valves. Just a selection valve for the pump- Tank or clear plastic hose.
I first turn off the city water from entering the unit. Select clear hose for the solution I want to add. turn on the pump and use the outside hose to fill the tank. I have heard that some do not have and outside fill so this may not help.

Yes mine doesn’t have the hose. It just has a valve selection for “normal” or “winterize.” Of course, the manual from Lifestyle describes the old system with the clear hose, but what I have is different.

Anyone have an idea how to get solution into the tank without the clear hose? Where is that hose connected anyway?

The clear hose is the pickup for the pump. It bypasses the tank

The solution a has to be pour into the tank through the tank filler

What tank filler? Do you mean the main fresh water connection? It angles downward and there’s no way to pour into it. Is there another place to pour into the tank?

I have a vague remembrance from the walk thru we just did. Put the selector to winterize find a piece of hose to go from the city water connection to go into the solution you want to add to the system. Turn on the pump. Let us know.

Yes, thanks. That’s what I did, but it just sits there. It doesn’t draw the solution in unless I run the water. So I think I’ll try running the water with the pump off first to empty the lines, then get the solution ready and turn the pump on. Then the pump will prime and that should draw the solution in. But will that get the solution all the way to the tank or just stuck in the line?

We taped a pcs 5/8″ garden hose to a funnel.

The system in my Lifestyle is not gravity fed so unfortunate that doesn’t work.

How about pouring the solution into a hose and then connecting one end of the hose to the trailer and the other to a pressurized water source.

How do you normally fill the FW tank?? i’ve got the 2-way valve setup on the tank outlet that connects either the tank outlet or the clear plastic winterizing line to the pump suction.

Is it possible to get pics of your utility bay and the area where the fresh water tank is showing connections?

So if you normally fill the water tank only when connected to city water, when you hook up the city water connection to the solution, select tank fill (or what ever), select winterize and turn on the pump it should draw the solution up by the pump and put it anywhere a tap is open. If you just want to refresh your tank dont open any other taps. :)

Well, that’s the problem. I can get the solution in with the pump if I leave a tap open, but I think the solution is just running right out the tap. When I did it before I could smell the bleach coming out as soon as it went in.

The easiest solution was to empty a hose, connect empty hose to fresh water inlet, pour bleach into the far end of the hose, then connect the end to water supply to push the bleach in. Seems to have worked.

I probably missed the obvious – I have a separate connection for Antifreeze. Does anyone know if this goes direct to the fresh water tank? I assumed it would fill the lines first.

        Faith…

That antifreeze is the pickup, not outflow side of the pump. The diverted valve selects if the pump picks up out of the tank or the antifreeze winterize to on valve. So, no it will not fill the tank with antifreeze or bleach via that valve.

Agree on the poor angle for city water inlet to fresh water tank. I do as other have suggested. Connect a short piece of hose as if it was coming from camp spigot. Fill it with a mix of bleach and water or all bleach, lift the end so solution goes into the tank. Nothing wrong with using your regular hose, just a lot of lifting and more chance of spilling. Also, regardless of mix or full strength, be sure to rinse the hose.

I see that I have the same problem. I can not put bleach into the freshwater tank. The only way will be to put and empty filter housing inline with the water inlet, put bleach in the canister, and select fresh water tank fill. I think that as usual the engineer that designed this, never saw an RV let along ever used one.

The water filter route will work. Or just shut off shore water by turning off shore spigot, let’s hose half drain, pour the bleach into the hose leading to the 5er from the campground spigot; re-attach, turn on spigot, direct water to fill tank.

Water filter is a novel approach. You just fill the empty filter canister with bleach and then run water through it?
        Fulltimer50
I dont see why not. I would measure first depending on the amount of water you plan to put into the tank. :)
